Some interesting research in the journal Surgical Neurology reveals that in almost 60% of patients, chronic pain due to degenerative joint disease (commonly called arthritis) can be managed by adequate intake of omega 3 fatty acids, eliminating the need for pain drugs.
Good sources of these fats are krill oil, fish oil, and chia seeds. As in any supplement, quality, purity and dosage are key to getting the full benefit. It is likely even a higher percentage of patients could benefit if the ideal forms of omega 3’s had been used in the study.
Additionally, omega 3 fatty acids are useful in treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease, depression and many other conditions.
